 Available VLAN Configurations
Solution

Currently HostingPanama™ offers two different types of VLAN (Virtual Local Area Networks) Configurations.  Below we describe them for better understanding of what they are and and how the work:

A virtual LAN, commonly known as a VLAN, is a group of hosts with a common set of requirements that communicate as if they were attached to the same broadcast domain, regardless of their physical location. A VLAN has the same attributes as a physical LAN, but it allows for end stations or units (in this case servers, backup services, firewalls, etc.) to be grouped together even if they are not located on the same network switch. With a VLAN Network reconfiguration can be done through software instead of physically relocating devices.

STANDARD VLAN
The standard VLAN is our most basic VLAN configuration and it provides the first line of privacy and data security.  This means that all network traffic (in and out) will be tagged (identified) for each customer seprately and will be allowed to flow independently within our network.  This maintains security within the HostingPanama™ network.

SECURE VLAN
A secure VLAN, as the word describes it, adds another layer of "security" to the Standard VLAN described above.  All traffic (in and out) will now flow first trough our HARDWARE FIREWALL systems.  This means that before entering or leaving a customer's private network, all traffic gets verified and enforced to meet any Firewall Rules that are established.  The rules can vary depending on the project's needs and can be modified anytime.

HostingPanama™ offers several types of Secure VLANS.  They are all similar, how ever offer different security options that might be of interest to different projects.  These types of Secure VLANS are:

  • Secure VLAN (Firewall + VPN IPsec Tunneling)
  • Secure VLAN (Firewall + AntiVirus + IPS + AntiSpam)
  • Secure VLAN Bundle (Full Protection: Firewall + AntiVirus + IPS + AntiSpam VPN + IPsec Tunneling)

VLANs ON MULTIPLE SERVERS
If the need arises to protect more than one server with one of the Standard or Secure VLAN options or even if a combination of these VLANS is required, HostingPanama™ offers a specialized service called "Advanced Network Services" or ANS, which can be utilized to protect multiple servers, without the need of purchasing individual Standard or Secure Vlans for each one.
This Service is called Advanced Networking Service or (ANS) for short.  You can learn more about this service here:
